Planning a concrete or masonry project
Most masonry mistakes are quantity mistakes: ordering a yard short in the middle of a pour, or buying twice the gravel you needed. The calculators above convert your length, width and depth into the units suppliers actually sell — cubic yards, tons, bags, blocks or bricks — and add a sensible waste allowance.
As a rule of thumb, order 5–10% extra concrete and 10% extra gravel or sand for compaction. For block, brick and pavers, 5–10% covers cuts and breakage; buy a few spares from the same production lot so color matches if you need repairs later.
